It’s pretty bad that I only write Quick Takes and the occasional What I Wore Sunday. I call it “better blogging through linkups.” I just can’t bring myself to spend time writing. I have so much else to do and not much to say.

We were supposed to have our office Lenten retreat today, but it was cancelled because of an impending ice storm. The storm came, but our office didn’t close, so I have to work today anyway.

Something random that I’ve been thinking about: I love my pets and nurture and treat them like family, but I’m not their mother. I don’t want to be offensive to people who feel this way about their pets, but I also don’t want to be reduced to being only the mother of someones of a different species than I am. Pets can never learn to read, they don’t learn to clean up after themselves, they don’t learn to worship God and help their fellow beings. They don’t grow up and become contributing members of society. I want to raise children, God willing, who learn and become these things. I want to mother humans, not animals. I realize that they will be dependent upon me, even more dependent than pets are at first. But what an awesome responsibility to care for someone who is in the image and likeness of God.

The Columbus Catholic Women’s Conference is tomorrow and I’m so excited to be attending. We’re going to have some great speakers: Fr. Leo Patalinghug, Suzanne Fowler of the Light Weigh (whose program has helped me lose about 20 pounds), and some of the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist (who also happen to teach at my parish school). Bishop Campbell will celebrate Mass and the Reconciliation talk will be given by Fr. Stash Dailey, our former Associate Pastor.

Because I’m going to the Catholic Women’s Conference tomorrow, my weekly schedule is all messed up. I have to do laundry and grocery shopping tonight. I’ll have to clean the bathrooms tomorrow in the evening. The thing I am most stressed about is the grocery shopping. I usually go on Saturday morning, just as the stores are opening. I don’t like crowds. It’s silly but I have a lot of anxiety about grocery shopping. I don’t like the pushing and shoving. I don’t like talking to strangers. I don’t like the time it takes, especially since I have started my gluten- and dairy-free diet. I have to read labels, find the best prices, and make sure I get the right amount of everything. It’s exhausting.

I got new tires on my car last weekend. What an expense, but what a relief! I definitely feel like I had a safer drive this morning because my tires weren’t all slippery.

Have a great weekend and may God bless you!
